Phonics in Both Informal and Academic Language

Objectives:
  • The student will be able to recognize, spell, understand and define the words as they are applied to the world.
  • The student will be able to see how energy and resources travel through ecosystems within the Everglades.
Introduction:  Take a look at our vocabulary words.  What can you infer we will be learning about in relation to our previous lessons on biomes and energy transfer?

Model: Using this flowchart from last week's lesson, how can we apply our new vocabulary words and species list to study the Everglades?


Guided Practice: Students will work in groups and come up with five ways to prevent endangered species and extinction from happening in the Everglades. Groups must use at least two of the vocabulary words learned from the digital story.  I will be walking around to help you get started with ideas.

Independent Practice: At home, create a public service announcement poster using at least one vocabulary word.  We will select the words in class on Monday and determine the due date.
